Fuengirola is situated just 20 km southwest of Malaga airport between Malaga City and Marbella. In Fuengirola is situated the last stop of the commuter train that connects Malaga city with Malaga airport, and several of the most important tourist centers of the Costa del Sol such as Torremolinos and Benalmadena. In the town of Fuengirola are located three more stations which are Los Boliches, Torreblanca and Carvajal. The town is extremely popular with foreign tourists, maybe because of its international ambience, the impressive 10 km long beach promenade "Paseo Maritimo", its high quality sandy beaches and its rich supply of hotels and holiday homes.

Throughout the 8 km of coastline of Fuengirola there are a total of seven beaches, all of them urban and accessible from the sea promenade and presenting a high level of occupancy.

The central point of the beach promenade is the marina, and in its surroundings one can find plenty of restaurants, bars and night clubs. The centric marina of Fuengirola is a sporting and fishing harbor and is not used to transport passengers, except for a ferry that makes daily trips from Puerto Marina in Benalmadena during the tourist season and twice a week during the offseason. In the port there is also a sailing club that has a sailing school and a diving school. Fuengirola’s nightlife unfolds especially in summer when the local population multiplies due to the many visitors.

The most outstanding historic site in Fuengirola is the Moorish castle of Sohail at the end of the Paseo Maritimo, at the river mouth of the Fuengirola River which offers an amazing view over the city and the mountains in the background. Other interesting places to visit are the zoo, which is quite originally designed, as well as the local water park.

Fuengirola offers a wide range of possibilities for sports and nature enthusiasts. The municipality has a score of excellent golf courses with 18 holes, plus a racetrack with very good facilities. Those who prefer to enjoy nature are very close to the Natural Park Sierra de las Nieves which is one of the most beautiful and preserved natural sites throughout the province.
