As well as the undeniable
interest of its exhibits and the important scientific and educational
work it carries out, the Museu de Geologia, located in Ciutadella
Park, has something which makes it unique: it was Barcelona's first
public museum and was founded in 1878 with Francesc Martorell's bequest
to the city. Since then, the museum has remained active and its collections
reveal to us the secrets of mineralogy and palaeontology in an entertaining
and educational way. The neo-classical-style building was designed
by the architect Antoni Rovira i Trias.
