M.A.N: Information boards. How many people does it take to
embrace a chestnut that, officially, has a perimeter of 12.5 metres.
Its age must be calculated on a millennium basis and, when you are
beside it, all measures are too short to describe the impression you
feel. It is known as the Pumbariños chestnut, and belongs to
the soutos of Rozabales, between the municipalities of A Pobra de
Trives and Manzaneda. At the foot of the trunk, there are benches
from which you can observe the tree, surrounded by the hurried flight
of hoopoes and other forest birds.
The souto is an integral part of the villages and reaches the walls
of the pazo (country mansion) in the hamlet of Rozabales.
