MONUMENTAL COIN La Iglesia
Rupestre.(The Rock Church). This cave was for a long time(8th
to the 10th C) an outlying monastery.
Iglesia de Santa Maria de la Encarnacion. (St. Mary of Incarnation's
Church). An old Arab mosque turned into a Catholic church. It is the
first parish of Coin, it dates from 1505 AD. A detached convent was
built in the 18th C. It has been restored recently and now it is a
building for cultural use. Iglesia de San Andres
y Hospital de la Caridad. (St Andrew's Church and the Hospital
of Charity). This church dates from 1520AD.lt has an L-shaped floor,
one of the four excisting in Andalucia. The former hospital is nowadays
the courthouse. Iglesia de San Juan. (St
John's church). Built over the remains of a Muslim castle and turned
into a parish in 1505 AD. The building was finished in the middle
of the 16th C. Its architectural style belongs to the Andalucian Renaissance.
Our Virgin de la Fuensanta has her dwelling in it, she is the patron
saint of the town and is only 11cm. tall. Ermita
de Nuestra Sra. de la Fuensanta. (Our Virgin de la Fuensanta's
Hermitage). It is located in one of the most beautiful places of COin,
Pereila's site. The original hermitage is earlier than 1529 AD.
During May it is the dwelling of our Virgin de la Fuensanta.
Torre de Los Trinitarios. (Trinitarios Tower).
This unique building is known for its triangular floor. Its construction
began in the middle of the 17th C. Nowadays, only the tower remains.
This monument symbolises the town. |
