| CRAFTWORKS The pottery of Coin, developed by many generations, is highly regarded for its quality, colour treatment and form. The continuous research into this magic craft, is the bridge that links us to our roots. Other arts have been carried out in Coin for centuries. This will be obvious to our visitors just by walking the squares and streets of our town. GASTRONOMY Simple cooking, based on the market garden's products is the distinctive pattern of the gastronomy of Coin. The "Sopa Hervia" (boiled breadcrumb soup), " Sopa Poncima" (bread and vegetable soup), "Gazpacho", "Gazpachuelo" (egg soup), "Cachorrena", "Matamario" are typical recipes of Coin. In winter, the most popular local dish is "Berza con pringa" (green beans with pork meat). In his famous book "Don Quixote", Cervantes called it "Olla Podrida" (rotten stew). The typical bread is hand-kneaded and baked in a wood fuelled oven. - According to baker's, the "Roscos de Semana Santa" (easter donoughts) are outstanding and at Christmas we like "Rosquillas" (fig donoughts) and sweet potatoe pies. In Coin you can enjoy "tapas" (snacks), in most of the bars. Dishes such as "magro con tomate"(pork in tomato sauce), "filetitos" (little pork steaks), "ensaladillas" (salads), "pescaito fnto" (fried fish), "aceitunas" (olives)... are common. SHOPPING IN COIN Shopping in Coin is a delight. Visitors will find every type of shop. Shops devoted to pottery, exciting gifts, wonderful bread and cakes and delicious Andalucian meats and sausages. Every Saturday you can go to the "mercadillo" (barrow market). Not to be missed if you want to experience life in and amongst the people of Coin.
