Jaen Nature Park Routes - Part 2
At the height of 2,167 metres, the peak of Magina represents the highest
in the province of Jaen. Opposite soars the peak of Almaden. At its
feet lies a nature park with an extension of twenty thousand hectares,
full of endemic flowering plants and white villages built in the vernacular
architectural style, such as, Belmez de la Moraleda, Cambil, Jodar,
Pegañajar or Bedmar. All of these villages share the same urban
design inherited from the Andalusi era.
The bare, unprotected landscape of the peaks of Sierra Migina contrast
with the warmth and fertility of its low slopes where olive trees,
fruit trees and asparagus grow. One of the most beautiful roads in
this park leads from Albanchez de Magina, goes on to crown the mountain
top and then descends to Torres and Mancha Real. From there, one can
make out the peaks of El Torcal and La Golondrina. The park is scarred
by river sources, hollows and beautiful natural wonders such as Cuadros
or Fuenmayor. Huelma displays an interesting monumental ensemble,
especially its Renaissance churches and Mediaeval castle. The motorway
to Granada, the E-902, cuts the mountain chain of Sierra Migina into
two sections. The Santa Lucia gorge is located here. On this other
side, lie the villages of Carchelejo and Los Carcheles. Campillo de
Arenas is located on the frontier between Migina and Sierra Sur. Noalejo
is a village which borders on the province of Granada. |
