Cadiz Information: JEREZ AND THE CENTRE OF THE PROVINCE

The centre of the province of Cadiz is essentially agricultural and occupied by several large towns each with a wide range of monuments and great character. The main one is Jerez, the most populated city of this small province and internationally famous for its wines and horses.

, However, it is also a modern town, as evidenced by the nearby Racing Track, and very friendly. The Cathedral, the Alcazaba Fortress and the Carthusian Monastery on the outs
la Frontera, kirts are the finest examples of its wealth of monuments, which is complemented by an impressive repertory of churches, many of them Gothic or Mudejar, as well as numerous palaces and several interesting museums, making the town especially attractive. A visit during springtime is highly recommended.

Arcos de la Frontera is anot her town full of charm, perched on
a mountain encircled by the Guadalete River. Large churches, such as Santa Maria and San Pedro, towers, the remains of the city walls and high viewpoints, steep white roads and its particular charm have made it the favourite of artists and writers, who have so often described it.

Other beautiful towns in the centre of the province are Medina Sidonia, where Arab remains, such as the Pastora Arch, coexist with Christian churches and palaces. Of particular note is the Church of Santa Maria de la Coronada, the high tower of which affords a view of the dehesa pasture lands, where the fighting bull grazes, the classic landscape of the area. Alcala de los Gazules is also worth a visit.

Nearing the sea now, Vejer de la Frontera is also impressive due to the originality of its urban layout, in which the mark of the Arab culture is clearly in evidence.

The finishing touches to the town's attractions are the stretches of city wall, squares adorned with palm trees and tiles, and beautiful churches.
