The Museu de Zoologia was set up in 1906 and since 1924 has been housed
in a highly unusual building known as the 'Castell dels Tres Dragons'
( Castle of the Three Dragons). It was designed by the modernista
architect Lluis Domenech i Montaner as the cafe-restaurant for the
1888 Universal Exhibition. The ground floor, where an impressive whale
skeleton is on display, is used for temporary exhibitions. The museum's
permanent collections include: "The Classification of the Animal
Kingdom", "The Apiary", "Urban Birds" and
"The Darwin Centenary, 1882 - 1992". The museum runs a wide
variety of complementary activities for the general public and children
in particular, which are always innovative and interesting.
