| The Centre d'Art Santa Monica stands
at the bottom of La Rambla, near the sea. Housed in the former convent
of Santa Monica (18th century) it was refurbished by the architects
Helio PiiiOn and Vicenr; Viaplana. The CASM has as its mission the
study, interpretation, production and exhibition of contemporary art,
with particular emphasis on Catalan art seen within an international
context. It is also a cultural information centre which hosts a wide
variety of events. | Villa Joana is the name of the 19th century farmhouse where the poet Jacint Verdaguer spent the last days of his life. Dedicated to the memory of one of the leading authors of the Catalan Renaixena period, the visit to the house also shows us what life was like in Vallvidrera at the beginning of the 20th century. The museum comprises two sections: the sentimental section, featuring period furniture; and the literary section, with an exhibition about Verdaguer's life and literary career. The museum is located in Collserola Park in the heart of the countryside, yet is within easy access of Barcelona town centre. | |
