Founded in 1327 by Queen Elisenda de Montcada, the monastery for the
nuns of the order of St Clare in Pedralbes is still imbued with the
peace and Quiet of monastic life. The ensemble includes the church
and monastery, set out around a magnificent three-tier cloister which
provides access to the main rooms: the dormitory, the refectory, the
chapterhouse, the abbey and the nuns' cells, one of which contains
Ferrer Bassa's splendid mural paintings. A visit to this landmark
allows us to see the artistic legacy preserved by the community of
nuns of St Clare throughout the centuries and to discover the way
they lived. THE MONASTERY'S HERITAGE
From 12th February
The Museu-Monestir presents in the dormitory room a selection of the
finest works from its noble heritage: sculptures, paintings, illuminated
manuscripts, silver- and goldware, exquisite Flemish retables, medieval
furniture... Preserved during centuries of cloistered life, these
elements of remarkable artistic quality are being put on public display
for the first time.
