The Fundacio Joan Miro (Centre for Contemporary Art Studies) opened
to the public in 1975 and has been a constant reference point in the
city's cultural life ever since. It houses the permanent collection
of works by Miro, an artist who was able to create his own poetic
universe and experimented with different genres : painting, sculpture,
ceramics, tapestries, graphic art, etc. The gleaming white building
was designed by Miro's great friend, the architect Josep Lluis Sert,
who created a structure with a markedly Mediterranean character.
THE BEAUTY OF FAILURE /THE FAILURE OF BEAUTY
Until 24th October
A joumey through great dreams, and the failure to make them come true.
The exhibition shows the great utopias from the anarchism of the 19th
century to the dreams at the end of the 1960s, contrasting them with
the art of current generations which protects itself against failure
by looking at individual and everyday situations. WOMAN
Metamorphosis of modernity
26th November - 6th February 2005
A new generation of emancipated women gained access to the artistic
scene causing a breakthrough in the existential attitude as well as
the artistic methods used. The exhibition brings together works by
Louise Bourgeois, Frida Kahlo, Joan Miro, Henry Moore and Pablo Picasso.
