FUNERAL CARRIAGE Museum |
The basement of the office building of Barcelona's Municipal Funeral Services houses one of the world's finest collections of funeral carriages and hearses. Although the museum's exhibits are not labelled, visitors can explore the basement at their leisure and admire the vehicles used at funeral services in the city during the 19th and 20th centuries. Exhibits include ornate Frenchstyle carriages, landaus and berlins used as mourning carriages, as well as the first motordriven hearses. | Villa Joana is the name of the 19th century farmhouse where the poet Jacint Verdaguer spent the last days of his life. Dedicated to the memory of one of the leading authors of the Catalan Renaixena period, the visit to the house also shows us what life was like in Vallvidrera at the beginning of the 20th century. The museum comprises two sections: the sentimental section, featuring period furniture; and the literary section, with an exhibition about Verdaguer's life and literary career. The museum is located in Collserola Park in the heart of the countryside, yet is within easy access of Barcelona town centre. | |
