ARAGON Information |

Three elements characterise the physical features of the region
of Aragon, giving it tourist appeal and a historical personality:
the high peaks of the Pyrenees, the Iberian Cordillera and the biggest
river in Spain, the Ebro. They have also been decisive factors for
all of the Iberian Peninsula, and throughout Spanish history.
The Pyrenees in Huesca include some of the highest peaks in Spain,
such as Monte Perdido, Les Posets and El Aneto, which in turn form
valleys with striking physical characteristics, such as the valleys
of Anso and Hecho. These peaks and other geological features make
up the almost sacred beauty of the Ordesa and Monte Perdido national
park.
The Iberian Cordillera, the only mountain range running diagonally
across the Iberian Peninsula, produces climates and geographical
qualities completely unlike those of its immediate surroundings.
The rich earth provided by the Ebro flowing through the region produced
plains of agricultural opulence and, at the same time, led the way
for the arrival and settlement of Roman culture whichl, despite certain
opinions, is still the backbone of Spanish culture.
Covering a surface area of 47,650 square kilometres, Aragon is also
a land of contrasts, and not far from the eternal snow and the ponytail
waterfalls of its rivers are semi-desert areas, such as Los Monegros.
The history of Aragon, with its confederation of kingdoms looking
to the east and the Mediterranean, has been a source of enrichment
for the Spanish State.
