Routes of Andalusian Flamencos
- ROUTE OF THE THREE-FOUR TIME |

|
There
is no doubt that the origins of jondo singing are In the triangle
made up by Triana, Jerez and Cadiz. Legendary artists, such as El
Planeta, laid the foundations of the flamenco essence and created
original flamenco styles like solea and buleria.
TRIANA IN SEVILLA
Triana has been considered one of the cradles of flamenco ever since
writer Serafin Estebanez Calderon confirmed this in his work Escenas
Andaluzas in 1862. El Altozano, El Zurraque, mythical Hotel Triana,
calle Betis, as well as the Alameda de Hercules, close to where
Manolo Caracol was born, and Las Tres MIL Viviendas neighborhood,
all of them in Sevilla, are places where flamenco is very important
indeed.
ALCALA DE GUADAIRA, DOS HERMANAS, LOS PALACIOS AND MAIRENA DEL ALCOR
Alcala welcomed many gypsy families from Triana, such as the Gordos',
who settled down just outside the castle, which can be visited at
present. Agustín el Gordo settled in Dos Hermanas where he
set up the Taberna El Potro, that hosts the Ateneo at present. This
singer arrived to Los Palacios with his flamenco pena El Pozo de
las Penas, and Mairena del Alcor, where Antonio Mairena, who was
awarded with the Uave de Oro del Cante award, was born.
UTRERA, LEBRIJA AND LAS CABEZAS
These three towns are cradle of great artists of flamenco singing,
such as Bernarda and Fernanda. It was in Utrera that the first flamenco
festival in the history, the «Potaje Gitano», took place.
In Lebrija, hometown of Juan Peña el Lebrijano, the «Caracola»
is the great flamenco event of the year. In Las Cabezas de San Juan,
there is the Femando el Herrero pena.
JEREZ DE LA FRONTERA
This is the heart of the route. There are two relevant neighbourhoods-
Santiago and San Miguel and the two legendary main locai artists:
Manuel Torre and Antonion Chacon. There are two important annual
festivals- «Festival de Jerez» and «Fiesta de
la Bulería». And there are also patios de vecinos,
typical bars, penas... Jerez or the intelligence of flamenco.
CADIZ
The smell of rush mats and salt invades everything.
Cádiz has a more progressive and improvised flamenco style
than any other town or city. Cádiz is the «door»
since flamenco singing started there. In Cádiz, there is
Santa María, the flamenco neighbourhood par excellence and
cradle of Enrique el Mellizo's flamenco singing style.
