Routes of Andalusian Flamencos - HUELVA AND ITS FANDANGOS

The fandango is a folkloric expression that takes you back to the Tartessian times. This folk does not have anything to do with the origin of flamenco. However, though, it has been gradually considered a part of Andalusian cultural tradition, and three big groups of fandango have arisen in the province - the city of Huelva, El Andevalo, and the Sierra.

HUELVA
Jose Rebollo (Moguer 1895), was the creator of a choquero style that made of local folk an individual art, and consequenUy flamenco. The dance consists of three types of fandangos and at least four people must dance together. All this information can be looked up at the local archives in Gasa Colon.

ALOSNO
Paco Toronjo was bom in Alosno, who listened to local flamenco artists who told their stories singing fandangos. They were inspired in the sobriety of the Columna hermitage and after working in the flour factory, they would go to the Begacha fountain to sing.

ALMONASTER LA REAL

Almonaster fandango is about pilgrimage and fiesta, fun-loving, and contrasts with the austerity of the castle and the Galiphal mosque from the 10th century on the hill.

EL CERRO DE ANDÉVALO, CALANAS, VALVERDE DEL CAMINO AND ZALAMEA LA REAL

Simplicity has influenced the flamenco styles of other villages, such as Galaiias and Valverde del Gamino, well-known for its boots. El Gerro de Andevalo festivities are interesting too, in which San Benito choir performs local styles while the jamugueras dance; and there is Zalamea la Real local styles too, a land of good anisettes.

CABEZAS RUBIAS, SANTA BARBARA DE CASAS, ENCINASOLA AND ARACENA

These are the most important places of flamenco singing in Huelva's Sierra. In Encinasola, there is a singular fandango, in minor tones, that everybody dances in the streets during the Virgen de las Acres pilgrimage.
