THE CASA DE CARBON. THE Casa de Carbon, of which these two
engravings present the elevation and plan, as its name imports, appears
to have been a warehouse or mart for the sale of charcoal. It is situated
in the city of Granada, and offers a favourable specimen of the architecture
of the private Moorish edifices: on this account, it may form an appropriate
conclusion to the present work, in which the author has endeavoured
to draw aside the veil of Oriental secrecy, and admit the English
reader into all the privacies of Arabian life. The beloved motto of
the Moslems-" And there is no Conqueror but God "-is introduced
wherever the artist could possibly find a place for it.
